In 2006 I&P created a local fund for small and medium enterprises in Niger. SINERGI’s part-loan and part-equity investments range from EUR 20,000 to 60,000.

I&P is now developing a similar fund to serve Burkina Faso and Mali, making five-year equity or quasi-equity investments for amounts ranging from EUR 20,000 to 200,000. I&P Sahel Entreprises will take minority stakes in the enterprises and sell its shares after five years.

The Argidius ANDE Finance Challenge award will enable I&P to provide more thorough training and other support to the team, in order to get the fund off the ground faster. “When the company launches at the beginning of 2014, it will have a portfolio and a trained manager and will be able to start investing,” says I&P Investment Officer David Munnich.
