Consisting both of plenary sessions and One on One meeting sessions, the conference is conceived as a professional meeting place between professional investors, those participating to Africa economic growth (entrepreneurs, companies, venture and private capital firms), finance and development institutions, and investment promotion agencies.
Jean-Michel Severino introduced the conference with opening remarks on the state of African economy and of the impact investing sector today. The Global Impact Investing Networks (GIIN) defines impact investing as ‘’investments made into companies, organizations and funds with the intention to generate social and environmental impact alongside a financial return’’.
J.-M. Severino underlined the importance of the intentionality and the level of profitability and impact expected, as these criteria are vital to differentiate impact investors from mainstream investors and from philanthropic foundations. “Regarding impact investing, the financial return is subordinated to social return. The arbitration must be made in favor of impact’’.
This introduction was followed by 3 panels and several presentations, as well as one-to-one meeting sessions in the second part of the afternoon.
