6th International exhibition of renewable energy in Dakar
Submitted by admin on Tue, 05/19/2015 - 09:18CDS, a Mauritanian company offering water and electricity services in the rural zones of the country, particpipated to the 6th international exhibition on renewable energy and the environment in Africa, held in Dakar late April.
The Exhibition is meant as a framework for the promotion and exchange for the different sectors of Renewable Energy, bringing together professionals, researchers, government officials, representatives of international organizations, donors and NGOs. It gathered more than 100 participants, from 15 different countries (African, but also European, Asian and American countries).
The main topic of this sixth edition was ''energy transition and climate change: the role of renewable energies", a subject of major concern for CDS. The company promotes the development of solar energy in Mauritania through its three main activities: Public service delegation of water and electricity in partnership with state and local authorities, distribution of ready-to-use solar kits, and installment and maintenance for electro-mechanic works (potable water access, hybrid or solar systems, water treatment plants, network extension…)
The company has notably received the Senegalese Minister of Development and Renewable Energies, which was a good opportunity to outline the main issues linked to energy access in Mauritania. The country is indeed characterized by a very low electrification rate, especially in rural areas. The coverage rate is 30% on average, but is as low as 5% in rural areas.
But CDS is convinced of this: access to energy is a prerequisite for the human and economic development of Mauritania. Solar energy can play a decisive role in this situation as this source of energy is particularly adapted to the socio-economic and climatic context of the country.
